Today is Liberation Day in Rwanda. It marks the day that the RPF, after making their way from Uganda, took control of Kigali. It marks the end of the regime which perpetrated the Genocide and signals the end of the war and genocide. The killing did not end immediately but rescue for the nation finally arrived.
There is a joyful atmosphere in Kigali today. I noticed at work yesterday that colleagues were excited about celebrating this day. And you can understand why, 100 days of unimaginable atrocities were being carried out in the streets and hills of this land...today was the day that desperate hope was vindicated and release arrived.
