So, I haven't got long to write - still in internet desert at the moment. But I wanted to share with you possibly my strangest day at work so far. It is Tree Planting Day today - an offical national day where everybody goes out and plants a tree to help protect the soil from erosion. However, its not a national holiday so we all turned up at work in our smart suits ready for a regular day at the office. But then at 8am, we are informed that the whole office is going to plant trees in Gasabo district. So in my pencil skirt and heels, I picked up a hoe and got on the matatu (minibuses) with the rest of the office. Halfway there, the buses got stuck in the mud. Then once we got there, the trees had already been planted so there was nothing to do. Of course this hard day of work meant that we were all taken for lunch before returning to the office.
A complete waste of time you might think. Actually, I got to chat to a lot of people from the office and see more of the villages and subsistence agriculture which makes up most of Rwanda. So not all bad.
