I am from Glasgow, Scotland where I lived until left to study Maths & Economics at LSE. I started off with the plan of going on to a career in The City, but my plans changed. In my summer holidays, I went to Botswana and South Africa on volunteer projects. My interest in development started and I got involved in campaigning in my university with Tearfund (Christian relief and development charity). I am just finishing up my masters in Economics (with reference to Africa) at SOAS.
Apart from studying, I spend a lot of my time at Church and meeting up with friends over coffee. I also really enjoy playing music violin/viola. I used to be part of the ULU symphony orchestra and am hoping to play more in Rwanda next year.
Last summer, I climbed Mt Kilimanjaro and really enjoy being outdoors. Its one thing I don’t appreciate about London, that the Scottish hills are so far away! I have already discovered an International Peace Marathon (and half marathon!) in Kigali each year which I would love to complete.
This placement really combines my two loves of economics and Africa. I am excited about the new people I will meet, a whole new country to discover and using economics practically.
I am looking forward to the new challenges once I get there, but not looking forward to the moving process!
