Happy Labour Day

I am currently in a state of confusion. We have a public holiday today for Labour Day. Now waking up in the morning and not going to work makes me think its the weekend...but actually i have to go to work tomorrow and then it'll be the weekend...i am not quite sure what day it is.

I am going to ponder for a while on labour. Now, i'm not going to pretend to know what Labour Day is all about because i don't. But one thing i am beginning to realise is that I enjoy work. The last couple of weeks have been really stimulating for me with many more things going on at work. I really thrive off the buzz of being busy all day and still having more to do the next day. This may seem a simple thing but it is only in the last month that there haven't been many hours in my day of facebook updating to prevent insanity. I feel like things are beginning to click in terms of understanding what i'm supposed to be doing and understanding how things work.

Clearly there are and there will be frustrations that go along with working in an environment where there are language barriers and way of doing things which is so different to UK. But i am content to be a good civil servant in writing lots of concept notes, guidelines, proposals etc. Some will be acted on and some won't. But that is ok, i don't have the power to make the decisions, only to better equip those who do, to make the right ones.

The other good thing about work is days off - so myself and a few other ODIs are off to Queen Elizabeth NP in Uganda again this weekend. I'm hopeful that i'll finally get to see some lions...in all my trips to africa, i've never seen lions and frankly its getting ridiculous. So watch out for lots of lion photos next week!

God bless xx
