Pancakes, Parents and Precipitation

No earth-shattering happenings to report this week unfortunately. Had a very good weekend spend with friends. It was Robin's and Diana's birthdays at the weekend (both ODI family) so dinner and dancing was done with lots of laughter alongside. I went to the restauruant in the Hotel Milles Collines (of Hotel Rwanda fame) which as the best view of Kigali from plus they served Scottish smoked salmon!! Although, prices were fairly exorbitant by Kigali standards.

Sunday, I had a few friends over to eat pancakes, in lieu of shrove tuesday last week. I was very glad not to miss out on this tradition, although trying to explain it to non-Brits met with some strange looks...we have a day to eat pancakes. Obviously the background to it being the day before Lent...but essentially its a day to eat pancakes.

The MAJOR excitement of the week is the folks arriving in 2 days!!! Not only do i get to see them both and spend lots of time with them, but also they are bringing almost a suitcase full of goodies from the UK. We'll be travelling round Rwanda for the first week they are here and then just be around Kigali for the second week. So, i will get to see a lot of Rwanda that i haven't seen yet...including the Gorillas!! I hope you are sensing my excitment...

We have had some major downpours of rain the last few days. I was woken by the sound of it crashing against my roof last night and in my half-sleeping state, was genuinely concerned that my house might get flooded. It didn't, thankfully. But I was reminded of those still out of their homes due to the earthquake in the South. There have still been aftershocks being felt there so many people are not back in their homes yet. Combining that with torrential downpours of rain does not make easy living conditions, plus the chance of mudslides with earth dislodged by the earthquake and rain is increased. Prayers still needed for those affected.

Tune-in in a week or so for the story of me and my folks traveling Rwanda...
