the last couple of weeks have been interesting, which is good for Kigali. I have been stimulated to get me house finally sorted mainly due to the arrival of my parents on 15th Feb!!!!
Now, the availability of good furniture in Rwanda is not great. The furniture market, where i have purchased most of my furniture, is filled with fairly standard designs which don't really indicated great design flair. So the discovery of some really really gorgeous furniture last weekend was immensely exciting...and in fact has kept me excited for the rest of the week. Hugh (other ODI) discovered a small place where they design raffia furniture and make things to order. The stuff is gorgeous and would look out of place in the UK. So i have ordered a some seating for my little patio. I really love the view from my little patio and having some comfy, good looking furniture there will mean breakfast outside in the sun from now on!
I also had a kind of housewarming on tuesday night. Had all the ODIs over for dinner. Anyone who knows me will know that i am not great at cooking dinner for lots of people. I tend to start flapping and then my guests end up doing most of the work. The same happened this time, i am just not gifted in this area. But at least i tried, and i think we all had a good time.
So, all this hospitality has inspired me to get things properly sorted for my house. I going to paint some of my dining chairs and get some coffee tables, need to buy more cutlery, a bottle opener, water jug...blah blah...
I went to my first Burn's night last night. Bizarre that its not until i'm Rwanda that i go to these things. Anyway, it was Alasdair's birthday this week so he hosted a night of scottishness. We had haggis neeps & tatties, poetry, toasts, songs, ceilidh dancing. Much fun was had.
The other excitment of the week was recieving my library package from the big sis...this weekend will be spent reading lots and lots :)
