Le premier jour a Kigali

I finally made it! The flights went smoothly. Flying into Kigali was great. I totally get why Rwanda is called the Land of Thousand Hills. It is literally full of hills. This provides gorgeous views but then the roads become rivers when it rains apparently.

I'm getting used to the idea that i'm not flying home in a few weeks. It does make arriving in the new place quite different. I need to get to know the roads around Kigali, get to know the places to do our shopping, sort out bank account, etc. It makes it quite different to when you are just visiting a place. The current ODIs are being so welcoming and helpful in getting things organised.

Alex (who I am staying with) organised dinner in the favourite Ethiopian restaurant. The food was gorgeous and it was great meeting the other ODIs and other friends. It did get a bit overwhelming though. So many new people and places that are completely unfamiliar. But, patience is a virtue and I will get to know these things in the weeks/months to come.

My first impressions are that Kigali is a very peaceful, chilled city. The weather really is perfect. Not too hot but definitely not cold. I have been trying to speak french but often they just reply in english. Some people don't speak french, some don't speak english so i'm finding its really a lottery what language you use.

Okay, i'm off to look at some houses this afternoon with Atrayee. We're both quite keen to get settled quickly. Plus, i need to get my computer sorted. If anyone has any idea why my laptop connects to the wireless network but i still can't get onto the internet, please let me know :)
